Krahn Family Student Engagement Service Award 

This award is determined through a nomination process. A selection committee reviews nominations and makes a final determination. Nominations will be accepted through May 19, 2022.

Nominees must be Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Any student, faculty, or staff member may nominate a student. This Krahn Family Student Life Service Award is designed to recognize a student who makes a positive impact to student life. The $1,000 award is expected to be over and above any financial assistance a student receives.

Kuh Family “Positively Luther” Award

This award is determined through an application process. A selection committee reviews the applications and makes the final determination. Application deadline is May 19, 2022.

This Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award shall be given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. This $5,000 award is expected to be over and above the financial aid package offered by the College, and should not be substituted for other support for which the selected student’s need makes them eligible.

Joy Tlou Memorial Award

This award is determined through an application process each fall. A selection committee reviews the applications and makes the final determination. Application deadline to be announced.

The Joy Tlou Memorial Award, established by Hla Tlou in memory of her brother, Bonolo Joy Tlou '86, shall be awarded to students, with or without a demonstrated need for financial assistance, whose character, leadership, and participation in the campus community enhance the quality of campus life and encourage a 'community of Joy'. Born in Africa. Raised in Decorah. Educated at Luther College. Celebrated for years in Park City, Utah. From the humblest beginnings to universal adoration. Joy was loved by everyone, everywhere. He was the Director of Public Relations for the Salt Lake Community College System. He was an artist who made beautiful pottery. He was a singer and musician whose performances spanned genres from funk to acoustic. He was a cook who wowed anyone lucky enough to sit at his table. More than all that, he was a friend to everyone. He was called the mayor of Park City for good reason. From college through his final days, he helped raise money for worthy causes. He made time for children and adults alike. He held massive dinners with no purpose other than to bring people together. His surprise phone calls and visits “just checking in” were welcome any day, any time. Joy touched people. Joni Mitchell wrote a song about him. Seriously. Simply put, Joy brought the joy everywhere he went.
