Marie (Mundfrom) Bany of Ostrander, Minn., died Dec. 21, 2020, age 93.

A celebration of life service for Marie (Mundfrom) Bany was held on Aug. 8, 2021, at Saetersdal Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. She died Dec. 21, 2020.

Marie Bertha Mundfrom was born to Edward W. and Amanda Mundfrom on July 3, 1927, and she was raised on the family farm near Cherry Grove, Minn. The Red School, a one room country school, was her first educational experience and she went on to graduate from Wykoff High School in 1945. She worked her way through college and graduated from Luther College in 1952.

Marie taught at schools in Chester, Iowa, the Decorah, Iowa area, and in Winona, Minn. She then felt a call to become a missionary and served 15 years in Africa. Upon returning home she was a social worker in Colorado.

Marie married Theodore Bany in 1994 and was his constant companion until his death in 2005. Shortly after his death Marie moved to assisted living and entered Ostrander Care and Rehab in 2008.

She is survived by her brother Fred (Dorothy) Mundfrom of Spring Valley and 17 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Gerald Mundfrom ‘47 and Edward L. Mundfrom, sisters Ruby Jones, Wilma Tallerday and Emma Larson.

Burial was in the church cemetery.
