Marshall D. Moen, 1951

Marshall D. Moen died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family's love. He was born on April 21, 1927, in Stoughton, Wis., to Tollef and Aagot Moen. He was a WWII Veteran. Marshall graduated from Luther College and Luther Seminary and was ordained in the ELCA church. He was a gifted preacher and served parishes in Minnesota, including Duluth, Long Prairie, Litchfield, Bricelyn, and Twig. He did chaplaincy work in Luverne, Minn.; Kalispell, Mont.; and at the St. Louis County Jail, retiring at 83. Spirituality was a cornerstone of Marshall's life. He loved classical music, pipe organs, playing the piano, singing, great hymns, anything Norwegian, flower gardens, celebrations, and the color red. He was creative and a gifted writer. He treated everyone like a friend and kept friends from all parts of his life. He was a proud father and grandfather and made it a priority to pray for his children and grandchildren in his last hours. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his wife Arlie (Kardvedt, Niemi), his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Sanford and Mary. Moen. He is survived by three children, Peter (Faith) Moen, Luther (Jane) Moen, and Solveig (Moen) Brown ‘86 (Sean); former wife Anne Mureé; two stepchildren, Joanna Niemi and Greg Niemi; grandchildren, Paige, Peter, Janna (Brian), Kaylee, Maya, Zoe, Parker; step grandchildren, Erica (Tyzer), Maria, Geoffrey, Cameron, Ethan, Laura, step great grandchild Camille; nephew Tully Moen, niece Laura (Kip) Fontana, and great niece Kara. A celebration of his life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minn., this spring. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church in Duluth and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Twig.
