Elizabeth Ann “Liz” (Tenold) Tokheim of Centennial, Colo., died Aug. 9, 2021, age 73.

Elizabeth, who preferred to be called “Liz,” was born on July 2nd, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford Tenold ‘44 and Betty Lou Tenold. She grew up on a farm west of Northwood and graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School. Liz then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she met her future husband, Paul Tokheim ‘69. She graduated from Luther with a B.A. degree majoring in Mathematics and Teaching in May 1970. After graduation, she moved to Denver, and began teaching in the Westminster (Colo.) School District. She then married Paul Tokheim on Dec. 20, 1970, and they had two children, Peter Tokheim ’99 and Mark Tokheim ‘01. After the boys were born, she decided to stay home to raise and care for them.

As the boys grew older, Liz turned to volunteer activities. She was an adult leader in Boy Scouts of America for almost 20 years, teaching adult leaders, starting and mentoring Scout units, and became one of the few female District Commissioners in the area. She became a “band mom” for the Gateway High School marching band, traveling with them to many parades and concerts. She volunteered with the Aurora Police Department. She also spent 17 years volunteering as a docent for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Liz was a co-owner and officer with Paul of Summit IT Consulting, Inc. for 10 years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50+ years, Paul Tokheim ‘69; her children Peter Tokheim ’99 (Nelle (Henry) Tokheim ‘99) of Apple Valley, Minn., and Mark Tokheim ’01 (Lee Ann Aden ‘01) of Aurora, Colo.; her two grandchildren, Erik and Alex; her brothers, Ken Tenold of Northwood, Iowa, and Eddie Tenold of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and many other extended family and friends.

Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave., Cherry Hills Village, on September 17, 2021.
