Student Fellowships and Scholarships

The Office of the Provost and the Honors Advisory Committee offer special advising for national and regional fellowships such as Rhodes scholarships, Fulbright scholarships, National Science Foundation fellowships, McElroy fellowships, and Goldwater scholarships.

Some fellowships that fund undergraduate or graduate research are available directly from particular institutions, while others are national programs open to any student. The Office of the Provost and the Honors Advisory Committee are available to help students with all fellowships, whether or not the fellowships require college nomination.

First-years, sophomores and juniors Boren Scholarship Provides funding for undergraduate study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad; for applicants interested in working in the federal government or public service following graduation.
Sophomores and juniors Goldwater Scholarship Provides support for undergraduate students in mathematics, science, computer disciplines, and engineering.
Sophomores and juniors DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions.
All students Davis Projects for Peace Provides funding for student-designed grassroots projects that promote peace.
First-years, sophomores and juniors Freeman-ASIA (study abroad, financial need) Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
First-years and sophomores Fulbright UK Summer Institute The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three-to-four week programs for US undergraduate students. Participants can explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university.
First-years, sophomores and juniors Gilman International Scholarship (for study abroad, Pell Grant eligible students only) The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.
Sophomores and juniors Peace Scholars Seven-week educational summer experience in Oslo and Lillehammer, Norway, designed to deepen students’ understanding of the central issues and theories regarding peace, justice, democracy, and human rights.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors Rossing Scholarship for Physics Education Provides annual scholarships of $10,000 or $5,000 for up to three years for undergraduates studying physics who are members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Juniors Truman Scholarship For college juniors with exceptional leadership potential intending to pursue graduate study to prepare for a career in government or public service.
Sophomores and juniors Udall Scholarship Open to college sophomores and juniors who demonstrate leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or the environment.
Sophomores and juniors Wigeland Scholarship Provides financial support for current students to spend a semester or year of study in Scandinavia.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows Program One year full-time position as research assistant in international affairs, globalization, nonproliferation, and security in Washington, DC; Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates.
Davies-Jackson Scholarship Unique opportunity for students with exceptional academic records who are first in their families to graduate from college to study at St. John's College, Cambridge University.
Fulbright Program For graduating seniors and recent graduates, the Fulbright Program offers one-year grants for research, study, or teaching abroad for one year.
Gates Cambridge Scholarship Awarded to outstanding applicants from outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge.
Knight Hennessey Scholars Knight-Hennessy Scholars develops a community of future global leaders to address complex challenges through collaboration and innovation. Every year, up to 100 high-achieving students from around the world will receive full funding to pursue any graduate degree at Stanford, including the DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MS, and PhD programs, as well as joint- and dual-degrees. Knight-Hennessy Scholars is the largest fully endowed scholars program in the world.
Lilly Graduate Fellows Program Supports students who intend to enroll in a Ph.D. program in the humanities or arts who are interested in becoming teacher-scholars at church-related colleges and universities in the U.S.
James Madison Fellowship Graduate school funding for seniors or graduates intending to become teachers of American history, American government, or social studies.
Marshall Scholarship For two years of graduate study at a university in the United Kingdom, in any discipline.
McElroy Fellowship Open to graduating seniors intending to enroll in a Ph.D. program in any field of the liberal arts.
Mitchell Scholarship For one year of masters-level graduate study in Ireland or Northern Ireland in any discipline.
National Defense Science and Engineering (NDSE) Graduate Fellowship Open to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in engineering, biosciences, computer sciences, mathematics, or physics.
National Research Council/Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship For students pursuing research- based master's and doctoral degrees in fields within science, technology, engineering, and math.
National Security Education Program - Boren Graduate Fellowship Provides funding for study abroad to students enrolled in graduate study related to areas of the world critical to U.S. interests, in exchange for two-year commitment to work in the federal government following graduation.
Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
 Provides two years of graduate school funding to New Americans (immigrants and children of immigrants) who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field.
Rhodes Scholarship For two or three years of graduate study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, in any discipline.
Schwarzman Scholars USA/Canada Designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century. Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.
Torrison Scholarship Provides up to three years of education for graduating seniors with membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America who are pursuing careers in medicine.
