Paideia 450: Ethical Choices Course Proposal Form

Paideia 450: Ethical Choices is a team-taught, junior/senior course devoted to interdisciplinary study of an ethical issue that confronts us in our lives as learners and citizens. Paideia 450 courses must pay special attention to the nature of moral decision making and to the continued development of students' writing skills. Deadline for submission is October 25th.

Briefly explain how the course will meet the following goals of Paideia 450 courses:

INTENTIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARITY: Paideia 450 is an interdisciplinary course taught by two or more instructors from different divisions or departments. How will the course incorporate varied disciplinary perspectives and approaches to study?*

ETHICAL REFLECTION AND MORAL DECISION MAKING: In what ways is the course a study of ethical choices that face individuals and society? How will the course be designed to engage students in ethical challenges and help them learn to make educated choices?*

INTENSIVE WRITING: Generally, Paideia 450s require writing assignments totaling no less than 15 typed pages or the hand-written equivalent. Typically, this includes 3 to 4 response papers (3-5 pages each) and 1 or 2 longer argumentative papers (5-7 pages each). Some 450s satisfy the response papers with extended journal or blog entries. Students are given feedback about both their ideas and how to improve writing quality in subsequent papers.*
