Luther College raises $1.1 million in support of students on Giving Day

Luther College has received a NetVUE Reframing the Institutional Saga grant of nearly $40,000 to prepare and publish a collection of essays that explore the college’s identity as a Norwegian-Lutheran liberal arts college.
Luther College is preparing for a major renovation of the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) in 2022. The improvements to the 45,000 square-foot facility include new floor surfacing that combines performance and safety, replacement of the multipurpose netting system to maximize space utilization, and installation of a videoboard to enhance the student and spectator experience. Along with the renovation project comes the commemorative naming of spaces to honor Luther coaches who have made a lifetime of impact on their student-athletes.
Luther College hosted its second annual One Team Giving Day on Thursday, Nov. 18. The campaign raised more than $329,000 from 1,890 donors to support student-athletes, exceeding the college’s $250,000 goal.
A generous gift from John ’70 and Barbara Melin will be used to establish the Rev. John and Barbara Melin Professorship in International Studies at Luther College.
In 1964, incoming Luther students could participate in a Guaranteed Cost Program, which fixed annual tuition, room, and board for all four years. Like many with limited means to attend college, Bob ’68 and Dell Ann (Kappus) Sathe ’68 relied on the program to help them afford the investment in college.
The generosity of Luther donors takes many shapes, including novel gifts of specialty musical instruments. These gifts in kind have been put to immediate use, allowing students to increase their repertoires and practice and performance opportunities.
As Luther’s endowment surpasses $200 million, the college has started to bring its investment strategy into closer alignment with its mission to work toward the common good.
Four Luther College students have each received a $1,000 Karen Julesberg Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.
Six Luther College students have each received a $1,000 Steven Mark Anderson Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.
Luther College is celebrating the success of its sixth annual Giving Day after exceeding its $1 million goal. Each year, Luther works to raise money for the Luther Fund with the proceeds directly supporting students.
Deco Products is continuing its support of Luther College and its students. The manufacturing company out of Decorah has established the Deco Products Applied Learning Endowment which will fund internship and applied learning opportunities for qualified students.
