Why Study Nursing at Luther?

Urban and rural healthcare knowledge. Nursing students gain perspectives on both rural and urban healthcare during their studies at Luther.

Early hands-on experience. Unlike other schools Luther students begin as soon as their second year with hands-on experience in hospitals.

We know that we have much work to do in living our values of leadership, reforming, social justice, and wellness and resilience. The Luther Nursing Department is working to prepare bold reformers for the greater good of health and healthcare with:

  • Intentional classroom discussions regarding the impact of systemic racism on health disparities
  • A directed readings course, “Structural Racism and Health Care”
  • A Health and Human Services workshop for junior nursing students on cultural competence
  • A larger systemic assessment reviewing best practices for diversity and inclusion, guided by the National League for Nursing Diversity and Inclusion Toolkit, with the larger goal of intentional support for students through recruitment, admission, graduation, and transition to practice.
