Health Service

Winneshiek Medical Center (WMC), part of the Mayo Clinic Health System, provides student health services and athletic training services on the Luther campus. At the WMC Luther Clinic, Luther students can receive routine, preventative, acute, and ongoing care.

Visit the WMC Luther Clinic website for a full list of services and providers.

Health Insurance Expectation

Luther College expects that all enrolled students have health insurance coverage. This expectation is in place for the protection of students.

It is the responsibility of students/families to review their insurance plans before seeking care at the Luther Clinic to determine if services will be in or out of network for their plan.

If a student’s insurance plan denies the claim for services provided through the Luther Clinic as out of network, WMC will work with students on a discounted rate that will be the student’s responsibility. Students/families who have additional questions after consulting with their health insurance provider may call WMC at 844-617-6990.

Domestic students: Luther College has partnered with Group Benefit Partners in Decorah to provide support for any domestic students with questions about obtaining health insurance that works well with Winneshiek Medical Center. Group Benefit Partners will help students consider options on the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, with Medicaid, and with private plans. Group Benefit Partners may be reached at 563-382-2981.

Medicaid is a health insurance program based on income. In addition to meeting certain income levels, students need to meet specific eligibility requirements to receive Medicaid coverage. Please see the Iowa Medicaid website for eligibility.

International students: International students are automatically enrolled in a health insurance plan; costs are billed to student accounts.
