Learn French to communicate with the world.

Why Study French at Luther?

Because French is a critical language spoken by an estimated 274 million people (and growing!) on 5 continents and an official language in 32 countries and governments.

French has been voted the third most "useful" language in the world and is the official language in most important international agencies and organizations.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Foreign Languages and Literatures are the top-paying majors in the liberal arts.

Student Activities

Students are enthusiastically engaged in a variety of co-curricular activities which promote Francophone cultures on campus. They can practice their French when they attend the weekly French Table, watch movies during "Francophone nights" at the Language Learning Center, make crêpes in town, perform French plays with the Luther College French Drama Club, interact with distinguished guests  from around the Francophone world, and much more.

The program also has a partnership with a French university where Luther hires a French native graduate student from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale to organize a variety of activities on campus. In return, one of our graduating seniors is hired by the Université de Bretagne Occidentale to teach English in Brittany for a year.
