Evan Fowler

Evan Fowler is the visiting assistant professor of trumpet at Luther College for the Fall of 2020, where he teaches applied trumpet lessons, directs the trumpet ensemble, and teaches brass methods. Prior to his appointment at Luther, Evan served as Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at Kirkwood Community College and as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Iowa.

While at Iowa Evan performed as a member of the Iowa Brass Quintet and coached trumpet ensembles appearing at the National Trumpet Competition, International Trumpet Guild Conference, and International Women’s Brass Conference. Evan appeared five times as semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition in the graduate solo and ensemble divisions. He has also been awarded scholarships to the Mostly Modern Festival, Atlantic Brass Quintet Summer Seminar, and the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy. He also recently performed as a guest artist at the University of Louisiana-Monroe as a member of the Three Button Brass Trio.

Evan’s DMA thesis, Cue Next Scene: An Album of New works for Trumpet and Electronics for the Intermediate Trumpeter, received funding through a competitive fellowship in the University of Iowa Digital Scholarship and Publishing Studio. He will present this project as a performance and panel discussion during the Association for Technology in Music Instruction National Conference in the Fall of 2020.

Evan earned degrees from Eastern Illinois University (BM), Texas State University (MM), and the University of Iowa (DMA). His primary teachers have included Amy Schendel, Keith Winking, Andrew Cheetham, and Mark DeGoti.
