Projects

A variety of projects have been completed through use of the Makerspace.

Chemistry Labs

One of Luther’s chemistry labs 3D modeled some of their own laboratory equipment and 3D printed their models in the Luther College Makerspace. This class has used the Makerspace for two semesters now.

Science 240: Pathophysiology

Science 240 students have used the Luther College Makerspace to explore in Augmented Reality (“You” by Sharecare) the human body and disease. Forty-six students had the opportunity to spend 15-20 minutes exploring various body systems over the course of 3 evenings this fall. In addition, Makerspace staff recorded immersive tours in the form of short video clips to show students in a lecture format (in 2D format).

Art Senior Project by Quang Anh Le

Anh planned on making miniatures as part of his senior project which focuses on redesigning HCMC’s welcome gate and city signs. The idea was to give the audience a better idea of what the city is about through these miniatures of our distinct food stalls, barber shop, and more. For this part of his project, Anh printed out his 3D models at the Makerspace.

Art 205: Art & Technology

Art and Technology uses the Luther College Makerspace to enhance the art student experience in exploring and developing new technologies. The coursework is enhanced by two units that make use of the Makerspace's equipment and staff. The two units are comprised of developing software that produced computationally generated 3d Objects that then could be printed and brought into the real world. The second unit was an introduction to VR programming for the HTC Vive. Students coded their unique VR experiences and tested them on the virtual reality equipment of the Luther College Makerspace.
