Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a  nonprofit, ecumenical housing ministry. We seek to eliminate poverty, housing, and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, sustainable homes alongside its homeowner (partner) families.

  • Academic Areas I Enjoy: I first came to Luther as a student to study nursing. I was a certified nursing assistant in high school. I pivoted to wanting to be a nurse-midwife and decided to design my degree at Luther. I studied psychology, biology, nutrition, and movement fundamentals. When I went to graduate school at Iowa State University to get my masters degree I realized I had designed a Kinesiology degree at Luther and continued those studies at ISU. My emphasis was Exercise Psychology and I researched how movement while learning in the classroom can not only help your physical health and mind, but can also enhance your motivation and enjoyment! So cool! All of that led to being a birth doula, a tennis coach, an anatomy professor (for a hot second!), and now a career/life coach. Travel Experience: I’ve traveled to 6:7 continents (no Antarctica for me!). Countries include Japan, Korea, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ireland, Mexico, Haiti, Peru, & Norway. I’ve traveled extensively across the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii and visited Canada often when I lived one hour from the border. I’ve led college students on five spring break trips, but 2023 will be my first with Habitat for Humanity. I’m excited for the new adventure and travel purpose. Why H4H Rocks: I love action-centered support. I anticipate habitat will bring together my joy of fostering a sense of community, providing hope, getting to travel, braving new challenges (I don’t know much about construction!), and building happy and effective teams! Hobbies: Racquet sports, Wingspan board game, water activities, watching Netflix while folding clothes, podcasts by inspiring female influencers, yard games, card games, and anything Daniel and Annalise (my twins born 3/1/05) are a part of.
