Luther College English students and faculty do excellent work that is acknowledged on and off campus. 

• The department has an active chapter of the English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta. With department financial support, student members attend the annual national convention where they have regularly won scholarships and awards. Read more about students' Sigma Tau Delta scholarship.
• Luther College is one of the select national colleges with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Each year, a sizable number of English majors are elected to membership.
• Nearly every year, there are English majors among the small number of students selected by the college to present their work at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). Three Luther English students presented papers at the 2017 conference: Emma Deihl presented her paper "Scars of Slavery: Generational Trauma in Pauline Hopkins's Of One Blood." Kate Koch presented her paper "Spooky Science: Examining the Historical Psychology of Poe's Characters." Lastly, Emily Osborne presented her paper "Reader, I Reject your Incredulity: Direct Address of the Reader in Jane Eyre and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl." The English Department is very proud of these exceptional students!
• Luther students in Creative Writing classes have been published in the publication The Daily Palette. These students are Aidan O'Driscoll, Luci Holte, Jacob Warehime, Emma Schlabach, and Mitch Stevens. Congratulations to these exceptional writers!
• Luther English alum Holly Norton '90 published a book of poetry entitled Letting Go, from Finishing Line Press.
• English majors are prominent winners of national fellowships. Luther College is one of the top producers of Fulbright recipients in the country, and many were English majors!
• Students have attended a wide range of conferences.
• Students and faculty regularly engage in collaborative research projects on a wide range of topics.
• One or two English majors are regularly featured as outstanding seniors in the Luther College Alumni Magazine.
• English faculty are actively engaged as scholars, publishing books and articles, presenting at national and international conferences, and serving on journal editorial boards. Some book publications are David Faldet's Oneota Flow (University of Iowa Press, 2009) and King, A Mystery (Resource Publications, 2019), Amy Weldon's Eldorado, Iowa: A Novel (Bowen Press, 2019), Lindsey Row-Heyveld's Dissembling Disability in Early Modern English Drama (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), Martin Klammer's In the Dark With My Dress on Fire (Jacana, 2010), and Kate Narveson's Bible Readers and Lay Writers in Early Modern England (Ashgate Publishing, 2012).
• English majors complete their senior projects by making oral presentations of their work to audiences of faculty and students.
