2016-17 Completers’ Responses to a Question We Posed in March 2018
“My principal (or primary supervisor) would say the following about my preparation at Luther College”
K-12 Music | Working in a collaborative environment and doing units across disciplines which train the whole mind and display the connections between all the different classes. |
Elementary: Instructional Strategist II; Reading |
I think my principals would say I was as prepared as I could be for my job. I have had some pretty significant behavior issues this year, however, they have been some of the worst cases the district has seen. My principals applauded the way I handled the problems and supported everything I was doing/did in class to best support the student. They would probably also mention that I am "too" dedicated to work - meaning I am often there hours later than most of the staff. |

My principal and colleagues say that I seem much more experienced than a first year teacher. They would say that Luther as well as my work ethic have prepared me well to be a high quality educator. |
Secondary Math | Luther provides many opportunities to gain experiences in a wide variety of areas. For example, I had the opportunity to student teach in an international setting, in a classroom that required a significant amount of differentiation, and in four different grade levels. My principal was impressed by the experiences I brought with me to my current position, without having any previous teaching experience. |
Secondary ELA | My principal would say I was extremely prepared for the position. She believes I'm highly knowledge in my content area and continues to comment on my growth as a teacher. |
Elementary | I believe my principal would say I have been prepared well for my first year teaching. Several teachers in the building have commented on the skills with curriculum and classroom management I have brought in, especially as a new teacher. I reflect on my teaching practices daily and use what I have learned to improve the next day and the next lesson. |
Secondary ELA | At North Field High School, I believe there are 4 teachers who graduated from Luther College, and our principal has offered his praise for our work which began at Luther College. |
