Exploratory Practicum in Area Schools

This introductory practicum is early in the program so students have the opportunity to “try on teaching.” In this practicum, the students will work with one teacher during January Term.

The experience focuses on observation and reflection, and offers opportunities for beginning teaching practice. Students journal with their professors regularly during the practicum and meet in seminars on campus to share their experiences.

What to Expect

There will be a one day orientation on campus on Monday, January 3, 2022. Students will be in the classroom Tuesday–Thursday. Students will observe, assist, tutor, teach small groups, and perhaps even teach a few whole group lessons.

On Mondays and Fridays, students will be on campus in a seminar to process their experiences with the guidance of their seminar leader, a faculty member in the education department. 

Students will use Luther fleet vehicles to commute to the schools.

All students will have a Luther background check processed for them before they are allowed to enter the school.
