One of the great opportunities I have had here at Luther was to lead students on an outdoor adventure trip in New Zealand.

Official Course Description:

New Zealand boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world and is a mecca for outdoor adventure. This course immerses students in an assortment of New Zealand’s natural environments and the country’s outdoor culture through a series of multi-day backpacking trips. Students will gain a high level of proficiency in backpacking and develop a heightened awareness for responsible travel through the back country. "Leave No Trace," is at the core of the academic curriculum. We will also gain a couple day’s experience each in sea kayaking, white-water rafting/kayaking, and rock climbing. In studying the natural environment, we will volunteer for a day on an organic farm to learn more about how nature and agriculture interface in New Zealand.
