Network Registration Guide

Every device that uses Luther's network or internet connection needs to complete a short registration process. This includes computers, phones, tablets, game consoles, smart TVs, etc. Registration allows access to the LCWireless and LCSecure networks and is only available to students, faculty, staff, and emeriti.

If you only need short term, basic web access, you can connect to the LCGuest Wireless Network, where registration only consists of consent to a terms and conditions.

How to register your device

Registering phones, tablets, and computers

  1. Connect your device to LCSecure. Most devices should register themselves at this point and just work.
  2. If LCSecure doesn’t work, try connecting to LCWireless and then follow the prompts at network.luther.edu.
  3. If your device can't register with these steps or if you have questions, contact the Technology Help Desk.
Tip:You'll get the quickest service if you already have MAC address of your device when you call. Try Googling “MAC address [your device make/model]”

Troubleshooting

  • Can use Google and Luther sites, but not others. This device isn't registered properly. Complete the steps above or contact the Technology Help Desk.
  • Finished registration, but no internet. Try rebooting the device.
  • "Computer already registered" message. Try rebooting.
  • Device fails to recognize any wireless networks. Contact the Technology Help Desk.
  • Can't use LCSecure. There are a few causes, but the most issues signing in are the most common. LCSecure needs a valid Norse Key username and password to connect.
    • If you don't see LCSecure or are only prompted for a password (without username), your device doesn't support LCSecure and you should use LCWireless instead.
    • If your device fails to connect but doesn't prompt for credentials, ask your device to "Forget LCSecure" and re-enter the corrected credentials.
    • If you are prompted for more values than just username and password, like "EAP method" or "Phase 2 authentication", try manually configuring with these values:
      • Security: EAP
      • EAP method: PEAP
      • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
      • Server CA certificate: [Do not check]
      • Identity: [Enter your Norse Key username (do not include @luther.edu)]
      • Password: [Enter your Norse Key password]
      • Anonymous identity: [Leave this field blank]

Additional Tip

  • As long as you use your computer on the Luther College network once every four months, your device will remain registered if you are a current student, faculty, staff, or emeriti. Guest computers will remain registered for 12 hours.
