Work-Study Provides Relevant Experience

“One person who had a big impact on my life at Luther was my work-study supervisor at the public information office,” Sarah says. “He taught me how to take criticism in a good way, always challenged me, made me realize what I was capable of, and let me know that I might do well with a career in public relations and communications. He’s still a mentor for me to this day.”

Building Her Career

“After graduation I got an internship at a public relations firm in the Twin Cities called Weber Shandwick,” Sarah says. “I interned with the farm and food advocacy group and they had just signed on a big agricultural client. So, I spent the summer directing farm shows for that customer. After the internship, Weber Shandwick gave me a full-time job and I worked there for over four years. After that I moved to Sioux Falls to work and become part owner of 9 Clouds.”

Luther Connections Help Establish Her Path

“I had an internship between my junior and senior year at Cargill and got the position from the spouse of a Luther grad,” Sarah says. “I got my first job at Weber Shandwick because of my work-study supervisor’s referral to a current Luther grad who was currently working there. And finally, I ended up in Sioux Falls at 9 Clouds because John Meyer and I went to college together and kept in touch.”
