"At Luther, I learned about sculpting, printmaking, art history, graphic design, and 3-D animation. I would have never been able to experience any of that to the degree I did if I hadn't been able to take those courses and be free to create and learn."

Post-Luther Career Path

After Luther, Jasper studied 3-D animation at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He then attended the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and enrolled in the graphic design post-baccalaureate program.

“After graduation, I accepted a design position for a publishing company where I designed magazines and got firsthand experience with art direction,” he says. “From there, I had a stint at an agency where I did branding and marketing for companies with a health and medical prevention/intervention focus. This experience finally led me to the East Coast, where I work for a tech education company that partners with colleges and universities to provide online degree programs.”

Art Major Makes an Impact

Jasper’s art professors at Luther pushed him creatively and he believes it was pivotal in his growth and development as a designer. As a senior, he was one of a few artists to have their work displayed in one of the college galleries.

“Looking back, deciding to major in art gave me the confidence to walk to the beat of my own drum,” he says. “Being creative and experience life directly without being overly influenced is all a result of deciding to go in that direction.”

Drawn to Small Class Sizes and Diverse Learning

Jasper spent his first year of college at a larger public university. He says, “I decided it wasn’t the right fit for me. I transferred to Luther because I felt that smaller class sizes would provide me with a better education. I wanted more individualized attention from my professors and a chance to build relationships with them.”

He also appreciated that Luther made it possible to take a wide variety of classes and provide greater experiences. “I learned about sculpting, printmaking, art history, graphic design, and 3-D animation. I would have never been able to experience any of that to the degree I did if I hadn’t been able to take those courses and be free to create and learn.”

Work Study Experience

“I helped build sets for some of Luther’s theatre productions. I’ve always enjoyed live theatre, and to see what it takes to put on shows even on a small scale made me appreciate it more.”
