Expanding His Interests

“With an interest in music theory, I found Luther's music program intriguing and inviting,” Sam says. “However, I discovered that being in the Luther environment evoked even more interests that I didn't even know I had. Some of these activities included having a role in an original play production and becoming a management information systems major, just to name a few.”

Well Prepared for His Career

“As an IT Business Analyst, I use the technical and problem-solving skills I acquired through my major every day in my work,” Sam says.

He also appreciates that Luther’s diverse student population exposed him to a variety of cultures. “My experiences have shaped my ability to effectively interact with people from various backgrounds, which I’ve discovered is one of my biggest assets in my line of work.”

Involvement at Luther

Sam formerly served as director of Luther’s Gospel Choir. “It’s a non-audition choir sponsored by College Ministries and the Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success,” Sam says. “It’s open to students, staff, faculty, and community members who like to sing traditional and contemporary gospel music, freedom songs, and songs of praise from South Africa and other African cultures. The choir performs in worship services during the school year.”
