Letter from the Dean for Student Engagement

Dear Parent(s) & Family:

Welcome to the Luther College Family!!! At Luther, we focus on building a community of leaders focused on respect and integrity; the very notion is built into The Norse Creed and The Honor Code.

We have several means to facilitate communication between the college and parents and family. Every month, Luther sends the Parent and Family Newsletter via email with announcements, stories, and tips for parents and families. Another is the Facebook Luther College Parent and Family Network group where parents of Luther students connect with one another in discussion. Announcements such as important dates, photos, and other interesting items will be periodically posted on the site by administrative offices to keep you informed. Last, I invite you to follow me on Facebook.

At Luther we understand the importance of engaging our students early and often while also connecting them to resources that will aid in their success. Thus, we want to be sure you as parents and family are aware of resources available to your student. Important information about resources at Luther is located on the Parent and Family website. This webpage will help you to direct your student to important campus resources as they approach you with questions and concerns pertaining to their various situations. I would like to highlight a few important resources for you to be aware of:

CAE – The Center for Academic Enrichment (CAE) provides academic support to Luther students throughout their academic journey. Students needing accommodations, tutoring, or other academic support should contact this office.

CIES – The Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success (CIES) supports students from all diverse backgrounds by seeking to provide services and activities that enhance the students' sense of belonging at Luther.

Counseling – a confidential and supportive resource for enrolled students. Counseling offers a variety of services to students such as support groups, individual sessions, off-campus referrals, and online support.

Health Service – an on-campus medical support option for students that provides a variety of services geared toward living a healthy life. Students should contact the Health Service if they are not feeling well to inquire about next steps for their care.

Student Activities – involvement is an important aspect of the student experience. Student Activities provides support for student organizations, schedules shuttle break services, and provides cultural, educational, social, and recreational activities for students throughout the academic year.

Student Engagement – a department geared to the total care and support of students. Students with questions or needing support throughout their time at Luther, should be referred to this department. Deans are ready and willing to work with students as they navigate their academic journey.

A holistic experience for students filled with committed faculty advisors, robust student activities, and a superb education is our goal at Luther College. We are glad you and your student have joined our family.

Sincerely,

Ashley C. Benson, Ph.D.
