Luther Scholarships and Awards

Luther College knows that the gifts and talents you bring to our student body help to make us who we are. Lively classroom discussions, active campus organizations, intelligent community dialogue, outstanding musical ensembles, and successful athletic teams are a product of dynamic, intelligent and successful students.  The scholarships and awards listed below are ways that we have chosen to recognize those talents and gifts.  Most of these awards (except EPIC and Departmental Scholarships) are awarded at the time a student is admitted.  Luther College will not retroactively grant scholarships and awards designated for incoming students once the student has begun attendance at the college.

    • Up to $1,000 yearly match per student from Luther College for congregational support.
    Selection Criteria
    • Matching grants are given to students whose home congregation financially supports their Luther education.
    Renewable?
    • Yes, up to 8 semesters; based on continuing participation of home congregation.
    Notes
    • Notification of awards—and the funds themselves—must come directly from the church to Luther for students to receive the match. EPIC is a program for congregations to support students attending Luther.
    • Congregations may be affiliated with any denomination.
    • EPIC is not intended as a means of diverting family tuition payments through congregations in order to receive personal tax benefit.  This is a violation of tax law that can jeopardize non-profit status for both Luther and the church.
  • Departmental Scholarships

Many annual and endowed scholarships and awards have been funded by friends and alumni of Luther College. These scholarships often have specific criteria for potential recipients involving financial need, academic program of study, etc. The Luther Financial Aid Office works closely with each academic department to award these scholarships to deserving candidates.

Awards are presented in the spring, for use the following academic year. Because selection is made by faculty, in cooperation with the Financial Aid Office, there is no need to apply. If you have questions, please see your department head.
